Open Air and Online Screenings for Dublin Climate Action Week

For many years the film industry has been used as a platform to highlight social issues and in recent years it has started to highlight climate and environmental issues in main stream movies and docufilms. Unlike other platforms films have the potential to evoke emotions in individuals while also enhancing their understanding and knowledge of social issues. During Dublin Climate Action Week (DCAW) the four local authorities will be screening a number of environmental and climate movies and docufilms to do just that.

The four Dublin local authorities in conjunction with CARO & the Dublin Energy Agency Codema, and with sponsorship from IPB Insurance, will be screening the docufilm ‘2040’. This movie will be shown on a solar powered screen, for 3 of the 4 locations and an LED screen in the 4th. By utilising renewable energy to power these screenings we’re highlighting the potential it has in replacing fossil fuels across all sectors. These outdoor screenings will be run by Happenings who’ve run similar renewable energy outdoor movie screenings in the past, including in Merrion Square and Blackrock Park in 2019.

In addition to these outdoor movie screenings we have partnered with the Irish Film Institute (IFI) who will be hosting the docufilms ‘The Magnitude of All Things’ and ‘The Biggest Little Farm‘ throughout DCAW, allowing you to bring the cinema to the comfort of your own home through their IFI@home platform.

Making these climate and environmental movies and docufilms more accessible to the public will help to spread the message of climate change, promote climate awareness and may help prompt behavioural change towards more sustainable, climate aware and environmentally friendly lifestyles.
