dlr is delighted to bring you this event, in partnership with Happenings and IPB Insurance.
2040 is an innovative feature documentary that looks to the future, but is vitally important NOW.
Award-winning director Damon Gameau embarks on journey to explore what the future would look like by the year 2040 if we simply embraced the best solutions already available to us to improve our planet and shifted them into the mainstream.
Structured as a visual letter to his 4-year-old daughter, Damon blends traditional documentary footage with dramatized sequences and high-end visual effects to create a vision board for his daughter and the planet.
This event is being held with support from Irish Public Bodies Insurance (IPB Insurance).

Climate change affects every aspect of life from how we grow food, the clothes we wear and the way we travel to the intricacies of world politics, endangerment of our planet's habitats and the fates of our future generations. And so, it is no wonder that so many books have been written about or inspired by climate change. No matter your age or reading preferences we have curated a list of books that explore climate change and all its many faces – whether it’s the brutal truth in David Wallace-Wells’ The Uninhabitable Earth that provides the reader with a cautionary and yet hopeful prose about our current climate crisis or the fantastical sands of Frank Herbert’s Dune that portrays a changing global climate in this award-winning sci-fi novel, we even have a list of children’s books for those trying to explain a complex yet vital issue to our youngest generations. We have curated a list for all – learn more about climate change and be inspired to spread the word and take positive action!

We are experiencing many changes in the way that we live and work. Our offices, city streets and climate require transformation. Smart Mobility Hubs is a pilot project that aims to address all three.
Designed and delivered by Smart Dublin, Dublin councils and industry experts, Smart Mobility Hubs offer shared electric cars and e-bikes that are free to use and easy to book. They are provided by businesses to their staff for the purpose of work travel.
Smart Mobility Hubs give staff more flexibility to leave their personal cars at home, and businesses more flexibility in managing their car parks. At scale, shared mobility will mean that our city streets are calmer, and our air is cleaner.
This webinar will offer both practical guidance and in-depth insight into why this project is important, and why these changes are inevitable. You will hear from local government leaders, and funding and industry partners.
This project is supported by Enterprise Ireland’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) funding, and by UCD’s Spatial Dynamics Lab.

Solitary Bees pollinate more flowers than any other group of insects ensuring that plant communities are healthy and productive. Without them mammals and birds would not have the seeds, berries, or plants on which they depend. Osmia aurulenta is the only solitary bee in Ireland that makes its nest in empty snail shells.
Over the last 30 years up to 30% of Irelands insects have disappeared. A recent UN report highlighted 1,000,000 species are in danger of extinction due to human impact. This symbiotic relationship between Osmia aurulenta and the snail shells that she makes her nest in represents a creative and sensitive approach to existing harmoniously within ones natural environment.
The Unavoidable Interconnectedness of Everything is an ambitious art project that will engage people, of all ages, to produce an artwork consisting of 1,000,000 individual, handmade ceramic ‘shells’, each one representing an endangered species. If you would like to participate in this project please join us for a free workshop where you will be invited to produce a ceramic snail shell that will be used in the final artwork.
The workshop involves a short presentation on the important role of solitary bees. Thereafter you will be given a practical demonstration on ways of working with clay to produce a ‘shell’, after which you will be invited to produce your own individual artworks.
This family event is limited to 30 participants, so feel free to register all your family, based on how many people will take part! Workshop materials can be collected from dlr Lexicon, Queen's Road, Dún Laoghaire, in advance of the workshop.

Walking tour: Visit a domestic Rain Garden in Action
Event Category
Walk & Talk - Visit to a functioning domestic Rain Garden
Bí URBAN has been funded by the Local Area Water Programme to develop a nature-based solution for urban runoff. The NatureRx Rain Garden Pilot will slow down the flow of rainwater using a simple community-based intervention. By diverting urban rainwater from residential rooftops into purpose built rain gardens we will diminish the overflow into storm drains that leads to the pollution of our water-courses.
As with all nature based solutions this project has been designed to address multiple urban issues. In addition to diverting rainwater these purpose built gardens will:
· Create green spaces in otherwise sterile cement yards, increasing levels of well-being
· Provide a connection to nature and horticultural opportunities for participants.
· Increase habitat for urban pollinators and wildlife.
· Act as a carbon sink
The NatureRx Rain Garden Pilot to develop a template and the data necessary to scale up the project and make a significant impact on water management in the city while creating enhanced levels of biodiversity and livability.
We believe our Rain Garden Pilot project will demonstrate that collective citizen-lead climate action can have a significant impact on urban problems and that creative partnerships with nature will lead our cities toward a healthier, greener and more sustainable future.
Participants will meet at Bí URBAN at noon to join the tour.

Dancing With Eco Farmers is the result of the Summer iteration of ... As If Trying Not To Own The Earth a new dance and food activism project from Instant Dissidence co-commissioned by Age & Opportunity’s Bealtaine Festival and Dublin Dance Festival with Dublin City Council.
Featuring new choreographies by community food growers and producers, the project examines our connection with nature, our role within our food system and highlights a need to reconnect with our bodies and with the Earth in a way that is sustainable.
